Technology Overview

In hot air welding machines, compressed air is blown through a heater. The air is then driven through a nozzle and blown between two layers of heat-sensitive material, causing it to melt. Welding wheels then roll over the material and apply pressure, creating the seam.

To obtain the desired results with hot air welding technology, the following parameters are set:

  • Air temperature
  • Air flow
  • Speed of the welding head
  • Speed of the welding wheels
  • Pressure of the wheels
  • Torque of the wheels

Hot air welding technology is commonly used to join materials such as PVC-coated textiles, and thermoplastics in general.

Since the heat is applied exclusively on the side of the fabric layers that are joined together, the seams are generally of a very high quality, not only in terms of strength, but also aesthetically.

Our Machines - Technical Details

Our welding machines feature the patented Intelligent Torque technology, that digitally controls the fabric tension during the entire welding cycle, and avoids puckering of the seams. Seams created with Intelligent Torque are strong and very flat, even when difficult-to-process materials such as crystal (clear) PVC are welded, or when an extruded PVC profile is welded on an underlying sheet of material.

Non-heat-sensitive textiles like acrylics and polyesters can be welded with hot air and glue tape. A glue tape, specifically developed for these fabrics, is melted between the fabric layers. Pressurized welding wheels then create the seam that joins the fabric layers together.
